FreeScout is a super lightweight and powerful free open source help desk and shared inbox built with PHP (Laravel framework). It serves as a self-hosted alternative to Zendesk and Help Scout, allowing you to maintain complete control over your customer support data without giving up privacy or being locked into a service you don't control. Key features include unlimited support agents, tickets, and mailboxes with no limitations. The platform offers seamless email integration, multilingual support (25+ languages), mobile-friendly interface, and collision detection to prevent agent conflicts. FreeScout supports modern Microsoft Exchange authentication, push notifications, auto-replies, internal notes, and automatic conversation refreshing. The solution is designed with a strong focus on security and can be easily deployed even on shared hosting with minimal system requirements. It includes features like starred conversations, forwarding, merging conversations, phone conversation support, open tracking, search functionality, and the ability to paste screenshots directly into replies. FreeScout offers optional paid modules for extended functionality including WhatsApp integration, Facebook integration, Telegram integration, Knowledge Base, CRM features, time tracking, custom fields, workflows & SLA, real-time reports, and many other professional features. The core application remains completely free and open source under AGPL license.

Platform Information

OpenMSP is currently community-supported. We focus on providing value to the MSP community first. Any future monetization will keep the core platform free for MSPs while maintaining our independence and commitment to unbiased information.
We focus exclusively on MSP needs with transparent vendor information and open-source alternatives. No vendor partnerships or sponsored listings - just honest, community-driven information to help MSPs make better technology decisions. Our biggest value is our community where MSPs help each other with questions, setup guidance, and sharing real-world experiences.
Our community of MSP professionals helps verify and update information. We also maintain direct research on tools and vendors to ensure accuracy. Community members can report outdated information, and we work to keep everything current.

Open-Source Tools & Alternatives

We assess tools based on active development, community size, documentation quality, production deployments by MSPs, and available support options. Tools must meet strict criteria for reliability and enterprise readiness.
Many open-source projects offer multiple support options including community forums, commercial support from vendors, professional services, and our community discussions where experienced MSPs share implementation guidance.
