Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's business suite: Exchange Online mail, the Office apps, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive, with Entra ID for identity and, on the higher plans, Intune for device management and Defender for security. For an MSP it is the platform most clients already run on, and the one that takes the most admin time. Administration is spread across several portals: the Microsoft 365 admin center, Entra, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Defender and Purview. Each client is a separate tenant, reached through the Partner Center with granular delegated admin privileges (GDAP), or through Microsoft 365 Lighthouse for a multi-tenant view on eligible plans. The recurring work is user onboarding and offboarding, license assignment, MFA and Conditional Access, mailbox and sharing settings, and watching Secure Score and sign-in alerts. Almost all of it is available through the Microsoft Graph API, which is what multi-tenant tools build on. OpenFrame connects to Microsoft 365 tenants through Exchange, Teams, SharePoint and Microsoft Graph, so licenses, user provisioning, security posture and compliance for every client are handled beside devices and tickets.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The Default Business Suite

Most clients already run on it, and staff already know the apps

Deep Security and Compliance

Conditional Access, Intune, Defender and Purview cover identity, devices, threats and data

Built for Partners

GDAP, Partner Center and Lighthouse give MSPs delegated access to client tenants

Everything Is in Graph

Nearly every admin task can be automated through the Microsoft Graph API

Cons

Too Many Portals

Admin work is split across the admin center, Entra, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Defender and Purview

Licensing Is Hard to Follow

Many plans and add-ons, and key security features sit only in Business Premium or E5

Frequent Changes

Portals, names and settings move often, so documentation and runbooks age quickly

Lighthouse Has Limits

The multi-tenant view covers eligible plans and a subset of tasks, not full administration
